ABSTET is a medication used in combination with prednisone to treat metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). It works by inhibiting an enzyme called CYP17, which is involved in producing male hormones (androgens). By reducing androgen levels, ABSTET helps slow down or stop the growth of prostate cancer cells. Here are some important things to keep in mind if you're receiving Fosaport (fosaprepitant):
Allergies: Let your doctor know if you’ve had any allergic reactions to Fosaport or similar medications in the past. Watch for signs of an allergic reaction during or after the infusion, like rash, itching, or trouble breathing.
Other Medications: Tell your doctor about all other medications you’re taking, including over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Fosaport can interact with certain drugs, like blood thinners, antibiotics, and birth control pills, making them less effective.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor. It’s not known if Fosaport is safe during pregnancy or if it passes into breast milk.
Side Effects: Common side effects include headache, fatigue, constipation, or diarrhea. Some people may experience dizziness or hiccups. If you have severe side effects like an irregular heartbeat or difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately.
Liver Health: If you have liver problems, let your doctor know. Fosaport is processed by the liver, so your dosage may need adjustment.
Birth Control: Fosaport may make hormonal birth control less effective, so consider using an additional non-hormonal method (like condoms) while taking the medication and for 1 month after.
Follow Instructions: Always take or receive this medication exactly as your healthcare provider directs, and be sure to attend all follow-up appointments to monitor your response to the drug.
